web design assignments
Because of my interest in design, I decided to minor in web design & development. This minor is geared towards non-computer science majors so some of the material covered was easier for me, but I was still able to learn a new set of skills that weren’t being taught in my CS classes.
In my first web design class, I was able to learn the basics of different Adobe programs including Photoshop, Lightroom, Illustrator, and After Effects. This class was different from the other classes I was taking at the time, but I was so excited to learn some new skills! It was great getting a general overview of all of the programs so I could use them in future design projects if needed.
My next web design class taught the basics of HTML and CSS, which was also so exciting to me! The computer science department doesn’t teach these to their students, so it was great to expand my knowledge of other languages. I loved getting to create web pages and work on creating aesthetic and functional designs.
I also took a web design course which taught me Angular and Ionic and we worked on creating applications which was something totally new to me. This was one of the more technical courses that the web design department offers so it was interesting to me and it really felt like I was combining my fields for the first time.
And finally I took a course that taught me JavaScript! I think this was my favorite web design class because I got to learn JavaScript, which they also don’t teach in the CS department. Using JavaScript to add functionality and interactive elements to webpages was an extremely valuable lesson!
Some of my assignments from my web design courses are in my GitHub, so you can check those out there! I’ve also included some visuals below of my final assignment from a more design-oriented class!
